The tradition of the church is marked by the pace of history. At the beginning there were deaconesses, and now we don’t have any. Will there be any in the future? We don’t know but many Christians believe that women should take roles of more protagonism in the life of the church. They are expecting this. For now we can say that all of us, women and men, as Paul says in one of his letters, are the living stones of this building that is the church and that we are called to make the best in communion and participation so that the church fulfill its mission to make the Reign of God present in the world, becoming a living sign of this reign for the world. The church is called to respond to the new challenges of today with the power of the Spirit, trusting that this Spirit will continue to show to us new structures and new pastoral actions that are necessary in our times.
