What is a dream to you? What do you dream of? For many young people who live in this country, their dream is one of Education, Equality, Justice and Fairness. It is also a dream of being like all their peers, when it comes to education, regardless of their immigration status.

The DREAM ACT has been in the news for a long time. The youth rallies advocating for the passing of the Dream Act throughout the country is paying dividends. The most recent victory of these courageous young immigrants took place recently as the governor of the state of Illinois signed it into law.

This legislation will allow for the creation of a private scholarship fund for undocumented youth and would ensure that High School and College counselors share accurate information with undocumented students regarding the processes to continue their education.

But the fact that the initiative was signed into law can be seen as much more than that. It can be seen as a welcoming gesture for young undocumented immigrants; an invitation to be an integral part of the state and a challenge to achieve their educational goals.

This is a tremendous victory, even if it means just one more state in the nation. Considering that the immigration supporters have organized and fought for years for the passing of this legislation, which was defeated last November, this achievement is something to celebrate.

The passing of the Dream Act was a dream come true for many young people, considering that tens of thousands of undocumented students graduate High School each year. But this was no easy feat. It certainly took all the effort and courage from these young and talented people, and other supporting organizations.

If you participated in one way or another in these efforts, you should be proud. If you have not had a chance to be part of it, your support is still needed and the ways to help are many. There are millions of young people counting on you to put in your two cents.

Let the example of Illinois example lead the way towards achieving the same victories in other states.

Every battle is won through small victories. This day we celebrate with the students from Illinois, and we recharge to continue supporting those from other states that continue their struggle.

Education is a light in the shadows, and no one deserves to be left in the darkness.

Yes, everyone should have the same rights and we should all be able to be U.S. citizens if we chose to be and are living here. We are all the same and we should all be able to get an education. Our parents or ancestors migrated to this country, therefore we are all immigrants, and everyone should be able to have equal rights no matter who you are.
