Fortunately, we live in a free country. If we are free, we can work at whatever we like, dress whichever way we like, buy whatever we want, eat what we like, and enjoy everything that freedom affords us.
But we often mistake lawlessness with freedom. We are free, for instance, to have a girlfriend or boyfriend, but sometimes we have several at once…We are free to drive, but sometimes we don’t respect bike riders or pedestrians.
We live in a free society but just like any other society in the world, this one is ruled by written norms and uses and customs. So that our freedom may be real, we need to respect those rules. Otherwise, although we are free, if we don’t obey the rules and regulations we can be fined or even imprisoned.
We are free to get married, but not to marry two people at once. We are free to speak, but should not lie. We are free to love, but not to kill. Just as society has norms and rules, God has commandments which ensure that we are free in heart, body, and soul.
God gave us the freedom to choose but sometimes we make the wrong decisions and this so-called freedom leads us into slaveries called alcoholism, drug addiction, debt, bigamy, etc.
God gave us the freedom to live in peace with love and happiness and from such freedom we can begin enjoying the Kingdom of God here on earth.
May God bless you always!
