Our encounter with God

Our lives are focused around so many myths that we might have reached the conclusion that we will never have a true encounter with God. We see it so far away because our culture or education makes us feel different from others and imagine that we will not be able to reach God. We might even consider that reaching God is only for people who are very close to the church: priests, nuns, or the Pope.

I have discussed with many people on how to speak with God and some even think that I’m a little nuts.  Others, such as our brothers and sisters who are no longer in the Catholic Church, can sometimes confuse communication with feeling good, which I personally consider to be accurate.

We often hear that the best way to communicate with God is through prayer. We believe prayer is the only communication, so during desperate and hopeless times we spend hours praying and most of the time we realize that there is no such communication, because our thoughts were on the problem and what we should do to resolve it, than concentrating on what we wanted to speak with God about.

In my personal experience, I can say that I’ve had several encounters with God. During 2010, I had two powerful experiences. It takes a lot for me to concentrate and this is where instead of getting closer we grow apart.

We previously said that we communicate by each action, task, and thought that are directed to Him. But what about prayer? Of course all the other things are important, but giving time to prayer is also important.

We can start by turning our prayers, whether they are many or few, into a true communication. This is easy. It is just a matter of thinking of the prayer calmly and without rushing, as if what we are praying for is being played before us, like a movie of what we are asking for.

Union is achieved when we feel in ourselves the actions we repeated in our prayers. If our prayers are offered from our heart, soul and mind, I am sure we will experience the encounter with God.

I don’t have to tell you whether you will have it or not. You will know when it happens and then you will not want to separate yourselves from God ever again.

May the Holy Spirit give you light and concentration to attain such celestial communication.

And may he fill you with love, health, and happiness!
