Anysia was from Thessalonica, in Greece. There was a great persecution against the Christians during her lifetime. One day on her way to celebrate the liturgy with the Christian community, she was detained by a guard who wanted to force her to worship the gods with him. When St. Anysia assured him that she was a servant of Jesus Christ, the guard killed her.
