December 11 – Saint Damasus I

Damasus lived in the 4th century. He was a generous and self-sacrificing priest. In 366, he was elected Pope, successor to Liberius. But there was a false pope who persecuted Damasus and spread false testimonies against him, and even taking him to court. Until he was finally declared innocent. Damasus dedicated the rest of his papacy to defend the truths of Christianity against heresies, to reform customs of the priests and to promote the love of Scripture. He organized an ecumenical council in Constantinople.
