Advent means coming and arrival. It could be said that it is always Advent, since we always seem to be searching and waiting. God the Savior arrives; or rather, God is always coming into our life. We must remain attentive, vigilant in our faith, with a heart that is willing to find God among all those in whom God lives, particularly the needy. We must be like the wise man of the legend and have hope, since without hope there can be no paradise, just like there cannot be new life without the many months of gestation. Christmas is about birth, life, giving light, and Good News. It is a time when God arrives to make his home among us, filling us with hope amid the darkness and fear.
The Word of God I am the light of the world; those who follow me are not in darkness.(Jn 8:12)
Make a list of world events that suggest darkness. Can you do something to turn them into light? What lights do you find in the world? And in your life?
Are you familiar with the custom of the Advent wreath? Do you put one in your home?
