November 25 - Saint Catherine of Alexandria

Catherine lived during the early Christian times and was the daughter of a wealthy, pagan family. She enjoyed studying and one day, Catherine began reading about Christianity, and converted. When she was just 18 years old, the emperor began persecuting the Christians and Catherine went before him to admonish him for such cruelty. The emperor called for pagan philosophers to dispute Catherine’s position, but in the end, all the scholars agreed with her.  The emperor became indignant and had all the experts killed. He offered a kingdom to Catherine; she refused, and was tortured. The emperor’s wife and 200 soldiers converted to Christianity when they heard her speak and were all martyred. St. Catherine is the patroness of Christian philosophers.
