Elizabeth was the daughter of the king of Hungary, and at a very young age she married Ludwig, the king of Thuringia. They loved each other deeply and had three children. Ludwig died from the plague that had spread throughout Europe. Elizabeth was subsequently persecuted by the courtiers, suffering great hardship, and was forced into exile from her castle until her relatives helped by offering Elizabeth the opportunity to remarry. But she decided to dedicate her life to God and to serve the poor. St. Elizabeth of Hungary died when she was just 24 years old. Things change quickly.
