Laurence was an Irish boy who was kidnapped by a king from a neighboring country. His father, the head of an Irish town, wanted one of his sons to enter the service of God and Laurence offered himself, saying that this was what he desired. He entered the monastery and eventually became abbot. Laurence was criticized because he wanted to follow the rules strictly, but was admired by those around him for his holiness and life of prayer. Laurence became Bishop of Dublin and from this position he helped the poor, inviting them as guests to his home. He was much loved by the Irish people. St. Laurence gave up all he own and died without anything.
How do you respond to criticisms when you consider that what you are doing is the will of God?
