Anthony was the son of weaver and for a while he was dedicated to his father’s work. But he felt called to the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. But soon his health began to fail and he had to leave. Anthony later entered the diocesan seminary. He spent many years, first as a priest and later as the Bishop of Santiago of Cuba, evangelizing through missions and simple books that would reach the people. St. Anthony founded the Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who continue his mission as Servants of the Word through missions and publications.
