John was a lawyer and governor of the city of Perugia, Italy in the 14th century. He was imprisoned by enemies of the city and here is when John began to think about the meaning of life. When he was finally freed, John joined the Franciscans. He was a student of St. Bernardino of Siena and spread the devotion to the name of Jesus. Those who heard him converted and were attracted to Christ.
