Ignatius is one of the first Christians, born in the year 50. He was the bishop of Antioch and was martyred during the persecution of Trajan. He wrote many letters to the Christian communities to encourage them in their faith. He was on a trip and when he arrived in Rome to be with the Christian community there, he learned that many Christians had been imprisoned. He rushed to join them and was thrown to the lions along with them.
