As a young woman, Teresa enjoyed having a good time and was conceited because of her beauty. But once, while she was sick, she read a book about St. Jerome and decided to become a nun. In the beginning of her stay in the convent it was difficult to pray and she spent a lot of time talking with her friends who came to visit. When she was looking at an image of the Passion, she converted and from that moment on she decided to reform the life of the convent, which had greatly relaxed its style. St. Teresa founded several convents and above all, she prayed greatly and wrote beautiful and profound treatises about prayer. She is a Doctor of the Church.
