Blessed the woman who gave birth to you and nourished you. And he answered: blessed, rather, those who listen to the Word of God and obey it.

It might sound as if Jesus did not care who his mother was or didn't think it was important. But, when we read this passage slowly, we realize that he is saying just the opposite. Mary, the mother of Jesus,  is blessed and  happy precisely because, in listening to the Word and obeying it, she opened the way to the Incarnate life of the Son of God in this world. On saying this, Jesus reveals to us our role in this world: when we accept the Word of God, and put it in practice, we allow Jesus to be really present in our world. And then we are happy and blessed.
