Saint Dominic instilled this devotion in his monks, but it was a type of prayer that the laity could easily follow since it did not require that they know how to read.  During those times many lay people could not read.  Dominic entrusted the future of the church to the Virgin since at the time it was enduring great heresy attacks. The Rosary can be prayed by everyone at any moment or place.  It meditates on the diverse moments and mysteries of the life and mission of Jesus and is a good way of renewing the Christian commitment.
