Legend has it that the early monks recited the 150 Psalms every day. Pious people, who could not do likewise, said 150 Hail Marys, remembering the mysteries of the life of Jesus. It was Saint Dominick at the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th who spread this devotion more intensely. As it is repetitive, and can be prayed anywhere, the Rosary becomes a prayer in synch with the breathing of God.
