Importance is sometimes measured by the position one takes, money earned, or the power of a personality. And yet, Jesus tells us repeatedly that he prefers what is simplest and smallest. And so he chooses people who, in the eyes of this world, could even seem to be “defective”. He does not stop at an apparent lack of intelligence, at poverty or weakness. He chooses those he wants and in the way he wants.
