September 16. Saint Cornelius
He was Pope in the 4th century. During his reign he had trouble with a heretic who affirmed there were certain sins that could not be forgiven. Cornelius passionately defended the faith of the church that maintains God forgives absolutely every sin, no matter how horrible they may seem. The only thing necessary is for the person to acknowledge his or her fault and turn to God in trust. The mercy of God, like that of a mother, is never exhausted.
Are there times when it seems that you, or someone near you, has done something so terrible that there can be no forgiveness? Do you think your mom would not forgive you? Can God, who is all love, do that? Is there something you feel incapable of forgiving?
