He was a Polish Franciscan, born in 1894. He would write a lot and propagated the devotion to Mary. But was arrested by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz, the infamous concentration camp. There a prisoner escaped and, as it was the camp’s revenge, they chose ten prisoners to starve to death in a punishment cell. One of the chosen was a married man with children. Maximilian offered to put himself in place of the man and the offer was accepted. In the cell, without food or water, the men were dying. Maximilian was the last of them.
