They were brothers, sons of the first Christian Russian prince, Saint Vladimir. Before his conversion, Vladimir had many wives and therefore had many children of other relationships. When Vladimir died, Boris and Gleb were persecuted by their stepbrothers. Boris and Gleb died forgiving their brothers. Many years later, Russian Christians began going on pilgrimages to the tomb of the brothers.
