He was Pope after Agapetus. Theodora, wife of the emperor Silverius, wanted to give the seat of Constantinople to a heretic and when she could not convince Silverius, she had him banished to an island, and he died after the mistreatment and misery he suffered. The Church celebrates him as a martyr, because he died in defense of the justice.
