May 26 – Saint Philip Neri
For many years he worked as a lay missionary, a vocation that at the time was unknown in the church of the 16th century. Then, at the behest of his confessor, Philip was ordained a priest and was noted for his gift of preaching and sharpness. He had a great sense of humor and celebration. His friends, who were priests, lived in community with him. This led the way to the Oratorians, a community founded by St. Philip Neri.
