April 22 - Saints Soter and Caius

Soter was Pope during difficult times and had to tackle certain heresies such as the Montanist, which maintained an exaggerated rigor in its customs. Soter was also known for his charity toward the needy. He would ask for alms in the wealthy churches and distributed it among the poorest. He died during the persecution of Marcus Aurelius (161-180).
Caius lived a decade later, but the two saints have been united by tradition. Caius lived for a while a season of peace, which he took advantage of to establish two schools of thought and theology. A persecution was unleashed later and Caius died a martyr.
