April 13 - Saint Hermenegild

Hermenegild was the first author of religious unity in Spain. He was the brother of King Reccared and they studied in Seville with their uncle, St. Leander, despite the fact that their father King Leovigild professed the Arian heresy. He married Indegundis, the granddaughter of Gosvinda. The queen interfered in his marriage so Hermenegild went to Seville with his wife, completed his conversion and became completely removed from heresy, which angered Leovigild. Persecuted by Leovigild, who tried unsuccessfully to convince him with flattery, Hermenegild was ordered to be executed. A short time later his brother Reccared also converted and with him, all of Spain.

Do you care what others say about your faith? How do you remain firm?
