Richard was the son of wealthy parents and received a good education, but his parents died young and his legal guardians only wanted to keep his inheritance. However, Richard was intelligent and took over his parents’ estate. Once everything was in order, he returned to his studies and was very successful, but he left it all to give his life to God. A year after he was ordained into the priesthood, he was named bishop. During the XII century, times for society and the church were very difficult, but the bishops of the time were rich lords and lived a life of luxury and comfort. And yet Richard felt called to a life of prayer and service of his brothers. He had an energetic personality, but was very kind with the poor, needy and marginalized, whom he was always willing to defend before the king’s tyranny.
Do you persevere and remain firm defending those things you believe are right? Do you give up easily? How do you use your talents to defend what is just?
