He was Scottish but, when he was very young, he was enslaved by the Barbarians, and sent to Ireland. In the midst of his difficulties and suffering, Patrick turned to God and a little later he managed to escape and go back home. While he was there, he felt the call of God to his service in Ireland. He prepared himself for several years and, despite the opposition of his own family and the local clergy, he was ordained a bishop and sent to Ireland. He gave up his inheritance and went to that country to preach the gospel. He walked throughout Ireland preaching, ordaining priests and challenging many young people to follow their vocation. Many people, including the kings of Dublin and Connaught with all their subjects, converted to Christianity. He founded monasteries and built schools and churches.
Have you ever felt a call of God in your life? Would you try to ignore it or do you prepare for it in any way possible? What are you doing for your future?
