She was a very poor and sickly girl, who was never able to attend school, but was very noble and sincere. One day the Virgin appeared to her and, naturally, no one believed her. The Virgin told her to scratch the ground and a fountain emerged from it and began to grow more and more. From this fountain many have obtained spiritual and physical cures.

Bernadette later entered a convent and continued to live a simple and humble life.
