January 28 - Saint Thomas Aquinas

Thomas lived in the 13th century. He was the son of a noble family and was very intelligent. He wanted to be a Dominican and at first Thomas’ brothers grabbed him and locked him up so he wouldn’t follow his calling. Then one of his sisters came to see if she could convince him to abandon the idea, but when he spoke of his vocation, she changed her mind and became a nun. After 15 months of not being able to convince him, the family decided to set him free to follow his vocation. Thomas wrote great treatises on theology, which have been used for centuries in the church. In all his intelligence and greatness, Thomas never lost his humility and simplicity. St. Thomas just served God with what God himself had given him.

What talents has God given you? How will you use them in his service and in the service of others?
