January 27 - Saint Angela of Merici

Angela was orphaned as a young child and she loved her sister very much. But her sister also died soon. When Angela was about 22 years-old, she started to notice that the children in her town had little knowledge of the Christian faith. Angela began inviting friends to begin groups to teach doctrine to children. They started opening schools when religious orders of women dedicated to teaching were non-existent. This was the beginning of the Ursuline order. As a result of the many difficulties they encountered, the Ursulines took some time to be constituted and Angela died when it was still in its beginning stages. Today, the Ursuline sisters are in many countries and devote themselves to education.

What is the situation of education in the place where you live? Do you think there are some efforts you could join to improve the situation?
