Saul was part of the group persecuting the first Christians and was present during the killing of Stephen, the first Christian martyr.  On his way to Damascus to continue his work persecuting Christians, he was blinded by a vision. When Saul asked who it was, he heard a voice saying he was Jesus, the one Saul was persecuting. Saul then asked what he should do and from that time on, he was, with Peter, the most passionate evangelizers and witness to Christ. Paul, as he was now called, traveled extensively and founded many Christian communities. His letters are amazing examples of the depth of his knowledge and understanding of the nature and mission of Christ.
