January 16 - Saint Berard and Companions

In the 13th century, Berard and his companions left for Morocco to preach the gospel among Muslims. They stopped in Seville, Spain, where they began to preach in the streets and were thought to be crazy. In order to avoid being deported back to Italy, they asked to be received by the Sultan. So, they were sent to Morocco, where they spoke to the Sultan, who gave them permission to preach in Morocco. But later on the Sultan got some complaints about the preachers, and he tried to save them by sending them to Marraquesh, in the West of Morocco. But they continued to preach and the Sultan ordered them to stop or leave the country. As they refused to do either, they were arrested and executed. Their mission seemed to have failed, but they were an inspiration to many people.

Do you give up at the first sign of difficulty?
